The worst thing for a hunter is coming home with ears ringing from gunfire.  This ringing can last for hours and can cause permanent hearing loss.  Using hearing protection on the range or in the field is vitally important to preventing hearing loss.

Electronic Hearing Protection for Hunters

You can find two very effective hearing protection devices. One is the Peltor electronic hearing device and the other is the Pro Ears Predator 2000. Both are effective and are simple to use and offers optimum comfort.

Benefits

The biggest benefit to using these devices is that they automatically block loud noises like shotgun blasts or rifle shots.  These sounds can startle even the most seasoned hunter.  By blocking the high-decibel noises, like gunshots, the hearing protectors keep your ears from ringing while allowing normal sounds to come through.

Amplification

Both of these devices allow sounds that are up to 25 decibels to filter through to your ears, and yet will block out noises in excess of 82 decibels.  This allows you to hear sounds that are around you that you might otherwise miss.  One of the added benefits to this is that it may in fact even help you if you’re one of the millions who suffer from low level hearing loss.

Hearing and Hunting

In order to be a good hunter, you know that you must be able to hear well so that you’re always aware of what is happening in your surroundings. When your ears allow a great amount of noise to go through, you might become startled by gunshots of other hunters in the same vicinity. Summary

If you’re introducing someone to the shooting or hunting sports and if you’re a participant yourself, you’ll definitely want to make sure you’ve got some good hearing protection.  Nothing is better than electronic hearing protectors like the Peltor or the Pro Ears Predator.  These safety devices are cost effective and definitely worth looking at.
